Blitz has partnered with Humanity United for Research Studies on Labour Migration of Nepal 2022. Humanity United is based in the United States, and is part of The Omidyar Group.
‘Research studies on Labour Migration in Nepal 2022’ delves into the vast issues that affect our Nepali migrant population. Three research studies were undertake in 21 districts across seven provinces.
a) ‘Analysis of behaviour cycle of labour migrants for foreign employment’ (survey with 4046 Migrant returnees from Malaysia and Gulf countries)
b) ‘Socio-economic impact of foreign employment in Nepal’ (FGD and IDI with spouse of current migrant, community, business community and ward chairpersons)
c) ‘Assessing the effectiveness of operationalizing the Foreign Employment related mandate of the Local Governance Operation Act, 2074’ (IDIs with mayors and rural municipality chairpersons )
The three research topics strives to understand the dynamics of labour migrations, the financial and emotional liabilities of the migrants, and challenges for reintegration. The report also looks into the impact of migration on not just those who go but also on families of migrants, the community at large and business communities. The report examines the current role played by the local governments for safe migration.
